Who doesn't want to end the 2010's with a bang!* Well, not literally the game bang, I'm not that big a fan.
In any case, gaming this Saturday, starting at 1pm. Who's going to be there and what do you want to play?
* - yeah, fine, I've heard the argument that we are still a year away from the end of the decade. But what's the drama in that??

I'll be there! I am also not a fan of Bang!! Otherwise, I'm up for anything. Also, when the third digit of the year changes, the decade changes. So let's end this with a Bang! (not the game. That would be as bad, to me, as "Let's end this decade with a Formula De!" Chris

I'm ready to party like it's two-zero nineteen.
Wouldn't 2020 be the last year of the decade? I thought calendar counting starts on 1s since there was no 0 AD. (At least, I seem to recall being wrong about thinking 2,000 was the first year of the new millennium)

Mike, I think, technically you are correct. But it's easier for my brain and we get to celebrate earlier, if we call this the end of the decade. What're we playing, all? Anyone bringing a flashy Christmas game?!?!

Hey, a decade is just "ten years" so I think we're free to start wherever we want. For example, when I think of the 60s ... it runs from the assassination of President Kennedy in 1963 to the resignation of Richard Nixon in 1974. The Billboard top 20 songs for 1961 included the theme from Exodus by Ferrante and Teicher and "Where the Boys Are" by Connie Francis (extending the 50s sound)... by 1964 the list is dominated by the Beatles, the Beach Boys and Motown - genuinely 60s music. So I vote that we wait a few years to assess when the last decade began, let alone when it ended - and just use it as an excuse to play games.
Now if I really wanted to start a debate, we could try to assess the best 10 games in the last ten years. My candidates include Lorenzo, Great Western Trail, Grand Austria Hotel, Tz'olkin, Castles of Burgundy, Scythe, Yokohama, Seven Wonders (with a 2010 release) and Wingspan for its good looks and Azul (because man does not live by complex strategy alone). I also want to put in a vote for Founding Fathers (I think it was also 2010) ... as my favorite game of the decade that is unlikely to be on anyone else's list.
I would be willing to play any of these as a Grand finale to 2019... in fact, I'd even be up for an El Grande finale. But I agree, no "Bangs", no "Ubongos" ... if there was a board game named "whimper" that might be an appropriate way to end this year....we might have to settle for "Obsession."

Marvin! You're a genius. You are correct. AND!!!! I just looked it up. I joined ABG on 11/10/09... just about a "decade" ago. I'd be up for Obsession, but I can't find my copy. Ugh. 10 best games of the last 10 years... Hmmm... You've named some of my favorites.
I think mine are:
- Lorenzo (with or without Expansion)
- Scythe
- Blackout Hong Kong
- Seven Wonders
- Great Western Trail
- Pandemic Legacy Season 1
- Concordia
- Orleans
- CLANK and spinoffs
- Barrage
Narrowly missing the list (which is in no particular order) would be Navegador and Hansa Teutonica, which are just a bit too old.
...and about 50 games tied for 11th!
I'd love to play any of the games on your list, Marvin! Bring some!
Chris
