Marilyn and I will be there, although we mostly play in the tournaments.

Doing a real writeup is too much work these days. Games played:
Amun Re - 3
Brass – 3
El Grande –4 Ingenious -1 LOTRConfrontation – 6 Lost Cities– 2 Le Havre – 1 Navegador –2 Princes ofFlorence – 1 SaintPetersburg – 1 Through theAges – 3 Tikal – 1 UnionPacific – 2 VegasShowdown – 3 Yspahan – 1
Notes in passing. In Lord of the Rings I lost in the semis to Nick Henning, who went on to win the event, so I guess that's a 3rd place. In Vegas showdown, I came in 3rd in the finals. El Grande, I got close but came in 2nd in the finals (Curt Collins managed to defend his title.) In Brass, I took 1st place, that made my week. And in Navegador, the game I was looking forward to most because I THOUGHT I knew how to play, I managed two 3rd place finishes in the initial heats.
I did manage to get in the semis for Through the Ages and Amun Re, but came in 2nd in both of those.

I like the summary version! For me...
- Highlight was learning "The Adventurers" winning my heat, the semis, and the final, thereby proving the game is all luck.
- I won a heat of Ingenious but that wasn't enough to get to the next round.
- I won a heat of Navegador but got thrashed in the Semi's by a young girl who took us all to school.
- I lost three heats of Lost Cities and gave up.
- I took my usual thrashing in Merchants of Venus, but borrowed the game to study up!
- I played in one of the Wits and Wagers games. I joined a team late, dragging them from a huge stack of chips to nothing.
- I played Stone Age and discovered a great way to win... the first half of the game and then vanish in to thin air. Things seemed to be going so well...
In Open Gaming
- I played Egizia about 5 times. Like it more each time I played.
- I played Small World/Underground and felt like it was more fiddly than SW, without offering much more game enjoyment.
- I learned Vineta, although didn't get to finish it.
- I played a LOT of 7 Wonders with the Leaders and figure I'll always play with Leaders from now on.
- I played some Tichu but somehow my love of the game was not transferred to the others who three of us tried to enlist.
- I played Ra in both the tournament (Twice) and open gaming and proved last years trip to the Semis was a fluke.
- I learned Innovation but it didn't turn me on. For the time and effort I'd rather play 7 Wonders or Dominion.
- I avenged my tournament Stone Age loss with another open loss. I guess that's not really avenging.
- I tried playing Dominant Species twice but both games bogged down and people had to leave. Anyone want to buy it!?!
See you soon! Chris

PS... I love Vegas Showdown and don't think it gets the respect it deserves.

The dropping prices in Vegas Showdown is an ingenious mechanic. It helps break the rule of most income games of "income first - points later". You can get by with less income if you time your purchases right.
I special ordered Egizia to get it in time for WBC, only to realize in hindsight that it conflicted with El Grande. I would have been thrashed anyway. edited by Epworthian on 8/19/2011
