Covid-19 and Gaming this Saturday - cancelled museumme wrote:
I really want to come. But having spent nearly the whole day managing the impact of fears of COVid 19 on my museum., I am a little gunshot. Unlike most of you, I am part of the age cohort identified as “at risk”. I think that prudence dictates that I pass.

I am curiously if any of you have Terraforming Mars or Through the Ages as an app. I have yet to play an online game, but I’d be interested in giving it a try. Maybe we could set up a time to play

Hi Marvin... I should have answered to all, not an email. I've played Terraforming Mars on Steam and Through the Ages at http://www.boardgaming-online.com/ NOTE: I left out the hyphen in my email, so I am not surprised you didn't end up on the site I intended. I have been really happy with both. I do not like the TTA app. I played it on the iPad and felt like I had to learn the game all over again.

Covid-19 and Gaming this Saturday - cancelled Sounds smart to me, John. Not worth taking chances and it was a small crowed. The only bad thing is that it'll let me work in that faucet I've been trying to fix for weeks. Ugh. Have a great weekend, all!

Online Gaming? With social distancing upon us, I was wondering if anyone is interested in doing some online gaming. I'm mostly referring to async games in which you take a turn and walk away until the next turn comes in, but if I have the time, I do live games, too.
The site is use most is www.yucata.de and out there I'm chrisbrandt

I play Scythe, Terraforming Mars, Lorenzo, and Heroes of Might and Magic VI on steam, where I'm cbrandt300.

I play Through the Ages on www.boardgaming-online.com ... where I think I'm also chrisbrandt. This is a nice implementation for a game that has a lot of administration needed.

I would be interested in learning about boardgame arena, but have not played there.

If you're already playing online or would like to learn about it, reply here or shoot me an email at cbrandt300@gmail.com.

Thanks... and stay well!
Chris

Online Gaming? I don't know if all the Steam games are async. Scythe has a "Play and Go" option, but I don't know how it works. Probably sends you an email or message when your turn is up, like Yucata does.

Online Gaming? Hi Marvin... No, I think this is still the beta version of Lorenzo, so it may not have all the chrome. Sadly, it hasn't changed in a LONG time, so I don't know if they're even working on it anymore. Terraforming Mars and Scythe have online options.

Also, correction - I play Heroes of Might and Magic V, not HMMVI.

Gaming 3/28 -> Cancelled in person, but ? Great idea! I usually play on Yucata, because it's free (except for that donation I make each year) and it's got some of my favorite games (Navegador, Castles of Burgundy, Macao, Oracle of Delphi, Glen More, and others). My Richmond friends and I have done it a couple of times now with a conference call going at the same time and the experience has been great!
I AM interested in Board Game Arena because I've heard they have Hansa Teutonica... my absolute favorite.

Steam has Scythe and Terraforming Mars. Steam is free, but you have to buy the games.

In short... I'm up for it!

Gaming 3/28 -> Cancelled in person, but ? Update - They just made an improvement to Yucata so that if the user count is >1200 idle users will be disconnected after 20 minutes. Shouldn't be a problem for real time gaming. Would anyone be up for The Castles of Burgundy at 1 PM Eastern time on Saturday? Looking for four!

Gaming 3/28 -> Cancelled in person, but ? I'm going to cancel this. I've got things piling up to do. Let's try it again sometime, though.

Gaming 3/28 -> Cancelled in person, but ? Do we have to have a headset? Couldn't we just use our computer speaker and microphone?

Best day of the week Hi Rick. I believe that you only get updates on BaJ when you are online if you are a premium member. When I'm playing real time, I don't get an alert, but the screen does the other moves and my name lights up when it's my turn.

I learned a few new (to me) games at BGG Con @Home. Mostly light filler stuff like Kingdomino, Chakra and Flaming Pyramids. I also learned Rajas of the Ganges: The Dice Game which was a little meatier. I played with 5 though which I do NOT recommend. There was way too much down time between turns.

I also learned The Crew which is a co-op trick-taking game with 3-5 players.

In addition to various games on BGA and yucata, I also got in a game of Concordia on boiteajeux.net. The interface was pretty decent, felt more like yucata and less like BGA. Not sure if it was a browser thing or just a glitch but in Firefox it would not alert me when it was my turn. Fortunately I was in a voice channel on Discord so my opponent could tell me when they were done and it was easy enough to refresh.

Cheryl started a new job a couple weeks ago so we're just sort of taking things one day at a time. I *think* I will be around on Saturday but not entirely sure at this point. She has to work on Thursday so if anyone else is around Thursday before 7pm and wants to game, let me know (although that should probably be a different thread!)

Rick

New Years Eve virtual gaming? I'm probably good after 7:30 or 8 or so.

4th Saturday -Political games? I know I'm LONG overdue on this, but here are some more...

Mr. President - OOOOLLLDDDD 3M bookshelf game. Def needs updating, but a fun game for 2 or 4.

1960 The making of the president - Very much like Twilight Struggle, a good game, but I did sell my copy.

Road to the White House - This is about the primaries and becoming the candidate. I played it once, and not to conclusion, but I still liked it.

I like political games. The electoral college is superb for gaming, even if people think it has problems in real life.

New Administration - Same Games? I'm sorry I didn't see this earlier. I'm going to check out City of the Big Shoulders on BGA and let you know. It sounds good.

New Administration - Same Games? OUCH! Four hour video. It looks interesting, but I think I'll wait until someone can teach it to me in person. I guess I'm an optimist when it comes to playing Face to Face again.

It might as well be spring I will try. Now that I'm working on site every day my weekends are pretty jammed.

Vaccination = Face to Face? Hi all. I was wondering how many of us had been vaccinated. Maybe we are at a point where we've attained nerd immunity... I mean HERD immunity. I had COVID in February and had an antibody infusion, so I should be safe, but I can't get a vaccine until the end of the month. I'm happy to wait. Anyone else getting antsy to meet across the table?
